Grand Mother
Grandmother Grand. Mother. Before me Who was she? I see the woman who chose a fate in hell Over watching her family enslaved With faith in Jesus, in compassion and love And sword hardened by the world she braved I wonder, Grand Mother Who you are When your busy body dreams at night? Grandmother Grand. Mother. Before me Who was she? I see the woman committed to a life Step out of her own and cross oceans To give birth only to give up child Take on guilt and a heart forever broken I wonder, Grand Mother Who you are When your anxious thoughts cease at night? Grandmother Grand. Mother. Before me Who was she? I see the woman who believes in man and church Longing and praying to be Mother Who lost faith in her own body and heart Seeking control where she couldn’t source power I wonder, Grand Mother Who you are When your weary heart rests at night? Grandmother Grand. Mother. Who will I be? Was I the one who broke the chains? Who took back authority of her story, Who felt and responded to her pain? Who tilled Earth for young seedlings to grow, And guarded the forest of old? I wonder, what Grand Mother I will be What Grand Father time will tell of my soul
